How do you know what your church teaches is true and not false?(read details before answering)?

I hear many people talk about ';false doctrine'; and my question to such people is how do you know it's false? Do you have scriptural reference that your doctrine is true? Can you give me scriptural references telling me that? And if so, how do you know that the bible wasn't tampered with?

I say to each his own, because no matter how badly you want to believe your church, or religion, or the lack there of, doesn't mean it is true, and doesn't mean that the others are wrong.

without solid 100% proof/truth how does anyone know what is true or false. So far everything out there is just believe in a faith. Compare yesteryear with today, I'd be willing to bet those of yesteryear would say most folks of today are sinning terribly. Time changes meaning and faith just like everything else changes with the times. How do you know what your church teaches is true and not false?(read details before answering)?
It requires that you read and study the Bible...There are many Bible Scholars (many that are not even Christian) that will vouch for the validity of the text, which in some cases can be traced back thousands of years. There is better support for the Bible's contents than of *any* other ancient text... that includes Greek works, Indian, Chinese and others. Once you have studied the original, than you can judge if what you are taught is true or not.
I believe religion is a personal choice and what rings true or false to each person is found within, not in the written word. I don't believe in organized religion, and don't believe in a ';middle man'; who claims to be closer to a higher power than I am, therefore I need him or her to get to that higher power. I tried many different organized religions, searching for ';the one'; that I could believe in 100%, and now I do my worshiping in the privacy of my own home or in nature and since I have begun doing that, I feel that I have finally found a religion that is true...for me.

Now watch how many thumbs down I get for this answer :)
Study your Bible

you'll know
All I can do is go by what the Bible says.
There is only One doctrine that is the doctrine of Christ and if anyone teaches anything else it's false
I disagree to each his own means all can be selfish as they like. I think we need to read the bible and seek God not trust Men's words I know the bible is real as God speaks through it.
Agree. We also have to keep in mind that the bible has been translated, copied and edited multiple times to serve different purposes, and there are a number of different versions of it - some of which vary greatly from the King James version that is common in the US today. There are also so many interpretations of the bible, that it is impossible to gauge which one is 'correct' - and which one most accurately represents the original text.

For instance, you can use the bible to both validate and condemn the exact same act. Which is right? Well, it depends on which is right for you as a person. So essentially we pick and choose which parts of the bible to believe, and then we choose how to interpret those parts so that they fit our existing system of beliefs. IE - we use the bible to validate our own beliefs, not to form them. Its the old ';God is made in Man's image'; argument - which rings very true.
Hm. No church I have ever attended used such terms as 'false doctrines.' I think that's a rabid Fundamentalist term. But in deciding what I consider to be teachings of merit, I use my brain. Does it seem reasonable and not harmful? Is it consistent with the general tenor of my personal faith? If so, then I accept it as probably true.

I have made the decision that I consider the writings of the medieval Christian mystics to hold more merit and intellectual worth than the Bible itself. I concluded this by reading the Bible, reading the mystics' thoughts, and doing my own thinking. The mystics' writings are coherent and consistent; the Bible is quite inconsistent, and the Book of Revelation is positively incoherent. Thus, I chose not to use the Bible as my ultimate guide to faith.

We each have to decide our own truths.
agree sorta disagree sorta.

As Christians we have the Bible as our guide. If someone is teaching something that is not in the Bible then it is a ';false doctrine';. All of my beliefs are backed up with the Bible.
The reason why I know what I believe about God is true is because the Holy Spirit tells me about God, and edifies what is written in the Bible, which gives me the wisdom to know what it true and what is false. As I grow in the Lord, I learn new things.

So a 'church' can have doctrines that were decided by councils or founders, or prominent pastors. What I do is rely on God to tell me what they say is true or not.

This is something that so many miss because they do not devote their time to seeking after the truth even after they are saved. They begin to accept the 'truth' of the church, rather than the truth which is from God.
I am only saying this to get people like you to understand this that if what I believe in (Christianity) is not true and I find that out after I die, I would not regret it one bit because the outcome is much worse than not believing and die and wind up in hell. If you want to take that chance then go ahead but you should not try to take other people down with you.
Each child of God has a built in truth detector, they simply have to access it in prayer. It takes some practice and the humility to accept the answer- which may not be what you were expecting. You are expected to use your intellect and come to your own best conclusions. but then double check. Ask '; This is my best guess so far, so what do you think?'; Then listen to your heart. The result will either be peace or confusion. The peace means ';So far so good, keep going'; The confusion means ';No, not yet but keep trying';. Don't be afraid of the confusion. It is to keep you asking. Good luck and bless you in your search.
