Is it a false doctrine to TEach that Jews were/ are dark skinned?

I THINK IT IS.

when i went to Israel and lived there, i sought to become a jew and i was Interveiwed and questioned by a rabbi that was completely caucasion. Most of the orthodox jews were white skinned. So I KNOW it is a false Teaching and a rumor that Jews today or yesterday were dark skinned.

comparatively, I live in a desert region and men who are caucasion who work outside during the summer end up looking likemexicans or Redskinned indians.

this question is not about race. its about true doctrine and false beliefs. Is it a false doctrine to TEach that Jews were/ are dark skinned?
I'm pale and freckled. My body hair (what there is of it) is light blond. I'm as Jewish as Moses. Is it a false doctrine to TEach that Jews were/ are dark skinned?
good answers everyone. it just shows how polarized religion and false teaching are become: when i looked at the link to the website the first thing i noticed was the dark skin of a cananite, not a jew. reading the scriptures has also taught me that the sons of HAM were ';cursed'; by NOAH

because of their connection to EGYPTUS. descended of Cain. Cain was cursed to be a vagabond by GOD. Ham was not a descendant of JACOB and ISRAEL.

Not necessarily ';false doctrine';. It is the ';Heart'; of the person no matter what the ';color'; of the Jewish person. %26lt;')))%26gt;%26lt;
false doctrine
There are black Jews from yemen, Ethiopia and Morocco, Arab Jews from Morocco, Yemen, Iran, Iraq (well, the whole middle east actually though most have since fled to Israel after being ethnically cleansed out of the Arab countries), Caucasian Jews from eastern europe, Indian Jews from India and so on. Race is a non-issue in Judaism- anyone from any race can be Jewish, either by birth or through conversion.
Why not read the text, see what the text has to say?

Whenever you finish reading this, I'd love to know what you -- any of you -- think.

Feel free to email me.
well I do think it ignorant when people have pictures of a black Jesus!!! But then again I guess if that makes these people feel better I guess as long as they are serving Christ, Oh Well.

Jews are a white race but that doesnt make white people any better, because God loves all people and human no race is superior to another. We are all God's children.
Some Jews are quite dark skinned. Some are very light skinned. Some are medium brown. It just depends upon the individual's family history.
Well, I would imagine the gene pool of the Jews of 2000 years ago has been somewhat diluted by now. Conversions and marriages would certainly make a tribe look different over time.
It seems you're using too broad of a definition for ';Caucasian';. Many Israelis are more olive-toned. I suppose you could compare the appearance to a white person with a tan, except that is their natural skin tone.

Dreamgyrl - very interesting article. I already knew that there had been a Western imposition on the idea of what the Jews looked like, but I had no idea it was to that extent.
Your question is entirely about race. You did ask about the color of skin. You seem to be irrationally trying to connect it to a religion, but your question is nothing but racial. Try to learn to separate the two in your head.
I think it is more misconception than false doctrine.
All people were dark-skinned at one point in time. The belief that Jews are dark-skinned and have big noses stems from the time that the world thought we all belonged to the same race - clearly not true.
More than a false teaching, it is a completely irrelevant distraction. Anyone who talks about what color the Jews were in Jesus' times or when the Jews were in Egypt (despite what most people who say ';the Jews were black'; think, Joseph and his family entered Egypt originally coming from eastern modern-day Iraq--hardly a strong argument for their having been ';black';) is not talking about Judaism, they're talking about racism, specifically their own. There is an adage that the reason why Miriam, Moses' sister, came down with what is mistranslated in English as ';leprosy';, was because she was racist herself, rejecting Moses' wife, Tzipora, saying she couldn't be Jewish because she was black. (Hardly something a black woman would be doing, eh?) The story goes that God said to Miriam, ';you don't like black? try white!';, and if you know the story, she was covered in white scaly growths (probably psoriasis). Hyperbole, obviously, but it expresses the Jewish view of two things: first, that rejection of someone as legitimately Jewish on the basis of their skin color is completely unacceptable in Judaism, and second, that Jews, no matter how white they appear, do not consider themselves ';white';. There are a great many pale-skinned Jews nowadays, but I would venture to say that this is far more often due to conversions to Judaism by European non-Jews over just the past 250-300 years, than to any long-standing ';white'; strain in Ashkenazi Jewish history. As for what ';color';/race Jews _do_ consider themselves, when the thought occurs to them even, I'm guessing most Jews' immediate response is ';Jewish';. Whatever color that is.
