When I went back to see the reply, it was gone.
I was hoping that CJ was finally going to study what our REAL beliefs are.
Oh well,,,,
It is difficult to see people continue to bear false wittiness.
We can continue to Pray for him.
Oh, and works are not 'Required'; in the Catholic faith, just like the thief that asked for forgiveness on the cross got Salvation from Jesus we can as well. But we can't be ';saved'; at the age of 12 and then commit a lifetime of unrepeated sinning and then expect to be welcomed straight to heaven like the OSAS people claim.
But, we need to Pray for Chris, (CJ)Why does CJ say that Catholicism teaches a false gospel of works that leads to eternal hell?
CJ does not have enough information or knowledge to be a trustworthy source on Catholicism. CJ teaches his own false gospel of works (he believes that a person must determine his/her own eternal destiny in order to be saved).
EDITED TO ADD:
Why the thumbs down for me? I'm just stating the facts here. I have had a private conversation with CJ and he insists that a person cannot be saved unless they do the work of deciding where they'll end up after they die. It's not Biblical. CJ can't even provide a Bible verse to back up his pet rule for salvation...because it's not Biblical. He's even made up his own church to support his non-Biblical theology. He is not a trustworthy source for any doctrinal discussion. Why does CJ say that Catholicism teaches a false gospel of works that leads to eternal hell?
@ cj
';But catholicism requires works (catholics will say that you're unsaved if you do no works). ';
';Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.';(Matthew 5:17-20)
';If ye love me, keep my commandments.';(John 14:15)
';Salvation is by faith in Jesus without works (John 3:16).';
the reason it's by faith without works is because good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly.
Well, I can tell you this. I was born and raised catholic. And, I am really grateful that I was exposed to some form of christian teaching when I was younger. However, I can say that I never learned the christine doctrine until I read the bible. I was under the impression that people sin, we dont have to change but if we go to confession and church on sunday, we all go to heaven.
The truth is this: Salvation has much to do with obedience to christ. Death to sin. We die to the sins of the flesh : malice, greed, sexual immorality, drunkeness, adultery etc etc the list goes on. But it is our faith in christ, the power of the holy spirit that breaks those shakles having bondage over us.
Here are some scriptures...
Romans 2:13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.
Romans 6:16 Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey鈥攚hether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?
James 2:26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead
Because he is ignorant of Catholicism and it's teachings. Unfortunately he has learned about Catholicism from anti-Catholics and not from true Catholics.
There are many who make assumptions about Catholicism, they assume they are right and never bother to find out if what they think is what the Church teaches.
Even being a former Catholic does not mean that person ever understood the faith or bothered to find out the truth about Protestant claims.
I became Catholic after being raised Methodist. I used to believe what I heard about Catholics too...I had no reason not to. I was told they worshiped idols, confessed wrongly to men, thought the pope was perfect, worshiped Mary, and believed that ';works'; could save you. Because I was smugly Protestant and didn't believe any of those erroneous Catholic beliefs, I felt religious pride and was glad I was not Catholic. No one was more shocked than I to learn that Catholicism did not teach any of those things, and further more when I did learn what they taught I had not choice but to become Catholic in order to follow Christ.
I'm sorry for CJ. His personal pride and arrogance are more evident in his posts than any true love of Christ. As Christians we are to love God with all our heart, soul and mind. If we truly do this we could never feel arrogant or prideful in our own beliefs.
ADDED: Catholicism does not teach salvation by works. This is an erroneous belief of anti-Catholics and some non-Catholics. We believe in salvation through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. But for all those who quoted that ';salvation is by faith and not works.'; You must also quote ';Faith without works is dead.'; James 2:14-18. Martin Luther didn't like this verse and even considered removing the entire book of James from the Bible.
The Catholic Church teaches that faith and works go hand in hand. The Catholic position on salvation can be summed up thus: We are saved by Christ's grace alone, through faith and works done in charity inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Sola gratia! Grace alone -- but a grace we have to co-operate with. Thinking that all one has to do is pray the ';Sinner's Prayer'; once to be saved is wrong. Thinking that all one has to do is be a ';good person'; to be saved is wrong.

CJ is my pal, even though we're polar opposites when it comes to religion. So here's where we disagree.
Bozo remembers a bible verse: Faith without works is dead. The Catholic Church teaches us to follow Christ's commandment to feed the hungry, help the poor, etc. Wouldn't a person who is part of God's family wish to help his fellow man as a way to thank God for his blessings?
what i feel internally religion is one thing where u have to experience the feelings...
CJ will not understand Catholism until and unless he experiences it.he will have this negative attitude till he experiences.
Any way let us not waste time in judging others but pray to be good,to have a good heart and soul.
Catholics believe in Jesus Christ and he is the only way to heaven....
Let's pray to God to have mercy on all of us and let us all meet in heaven..
I waited for this to die down a bit before answering because I just don't get Protestants on this issue i.e. the whole faith versus works thing. I think they just don't like it because we do the Rosary and the other rituals, etc which they don't do. I get upset when this whole subject comes up with my Protestant friends.
This is quite a good page, in explaining it all: http://catholicexchange.com/2008/06/02/112724/ People probably hate me referring to other sites here but I think we should check with an authority about things which concern the Bible instead of just stating off our own opinions. We can't just earn salvation through our own efforts, because then what did Jesus die for? But a faith or belief that doesn't motivate or inspire you to do works is pretty useless, isn't it? 'It's not faith or works, but faith that works.'
you would have to ask CJ why he stated that. only he would know. none of us are mind readers. being a Catholic, even if only nominally, the CAtholic Church is the first Christian Church. it was initiated on the night of the Last Supper by Jesus Himself. but like all thins in this world humans eventually tend to decide to change things to there way of thinking and believing. that is what happened to the Catholic Church. Jesus intended for the Catholic Church to a simple church based on what Jesus taught while he was on earth. He taught us many lessons. we would understand this if only we would open our eyes and ears and hearts to what he said. but humans tend to exaggerate and they don't
Salvation is by faith in Jesus without works (John 3:16).
But catholicism requires works (catholics will say that you're unsaved if you do no works).
That's why.
CJ was educated falsely about the Roman Catholic Church. This can happen to any person.
Please for CJ to find the rightful true truth
He's a complete douche.
If anything, his backwards, anti-Christian beliefs will lead him strait to hell. Jesus sent Peter to found his Church.
Fear.
Arrogance.
Willful ignorance.
Pick one.
Because it DOES! If you were born again you would know that! The Holy Spirit would reveal that within you. If you doubt this, than how can you have the discernment of the Holy Spirit?
EDIT:
We are saved by faith, not works: ';For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from youselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast.
We are warned about those who will lead us astray from the true Gospel, '; For certain men whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord '; (Jude 1-4).
Well there are several Catholic teachings and/or doctrines that contradict God's Word. For example:
Purgatory
Confession to Priests of sin
Mass
Praying for the dead
Infant baptism
Papacy
Etc.
