Christians ,This False Teaching That Some people are tormented after death.?

Many religions teach that the wicked will go to a fiery hell and be tormented forever. Is this teaching logical and Scriptural? The human life span is limited to 70 or 80 years. Even if someone was guilty of extreme wickedness all his life, would everlasting torment be a just punishment? No. It would be grossly unjust to torment a man forever for the sins that he committed in a short lifetime.

Only God can reveal what happens after people die, and he has done so in his written Word, the Bible. This is what the Bible says: “As the [beast] dies, so the [man] dies; and they all have but one spirit . . . All are going to one place. They have all come to be from the dust, and they are all returning to the dust.” (Ecclesiastes 3:19, 20) There is no mention here of a fiery hell. Humans return to dust—to nonexistence—when they die.

In order to be tormented, a person has to be conscious. Are the dead conscious?

Once again, the Bible gives the answer: “The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten.” (Ecclesiastes 9:5)

Now According to What The Bible Really Teaches , Isn't it impossible for the dead, who are “conscious of nothing at all,” to experience agony anywhere?Christians ,This False Teaching That Some people are tormented after death.?
That false teaching makes people think that our loving father is cruel. He is a loving father. Would a loving father who's child disobeyed him hold his child's hand over a burning stove? Of course not, neither would our loving father.

Hell (sheol) mans common grave. We all go there when we die unless we are of the anointed.Christians ,This False Teaching That Some people are tormented after death.?
Jesus had several things to say about hell.

And fear not them which kill the body but are not able to kill the soul. But rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Matthew 10:28

Also, see Matthew 5:22; 11:23; 25:41; Luke 16:23; etc.

And don't forget: all the dead will be resurrected. They may not be in hell
And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt'; (Daniel 12:2).
Sigh.... you don't know what you're talking about. You obviously cant comprehend simple scripture. Its alright. No need to argue. You THINK you're right while I KNOW the bible says you're WRONG. Come out of your little fairy tale world for a minute and recognize there is a lot at stake here.
You need to get born again and study the word. You need to honor God instead of doubting him. You push him away from you every time you say doubting things. He will never appear to you because you disrespect him.

The Bible was definitely inspired.
Yup, right on! It's funny how the 'rich man %26amp; Lazarus' is supposed to prove eternal torment even though it was a PARABLE describing the difference in how the rich vs the poor will be acknowledged by God. Everything in it is symbolic...like Lazarus could really leave heaven to bring the RM one drop of water...and like that one drop's really going to do the RM any good, rofl. http://www.helltruth.com/
Hell doesn't exist,but you need some leverage to scare people to believe in god.If it wasn't for the threat hell,there would be no believers in god.
read the story of the rich man and lazarus then you'll understand...
You should be a Seventh-Day Adventist. We do not believe in an eternal hell, nor do we believe that people are ';alive'; in spirit form after death. We believe that when people die, they ';sleep'; in an unconscious state until Christ returns to resurrect them (which is soon). At that time, only the Saved will be resurrected. The Wicked will sleep another 1,000 years until Christ and His Saved return to judge the Wicked. At that time, the Wicked will be resurrected to damnation, judged, and then Hellfire will rain down from Heaven and consume them all. They will be instantly incinerated; they will not be ';tortured forever';. Our beliefs are scripturally supported. Ask an SDA pastor to show them to you.
I rather believe the interpretation of the Early Christians than your interpretation, sorry.

Second Clement (150 AD):

';If we do the will of Christ, we shall obtain rest; but if not, if we neglect his commandments, nothing will rescue us from eternal punishment'; (Second Clement 5:5).

Justin Martyr (150 AD):

';We have been taught that only they may aim at immortality who have lived a holy and virtuous life near to God. We believe that they who live wickedly and do not repent will be punished in everlasting fire'; (First Apology, 21).
When we are dead we know nothing, we can't even praise God, as the Scriptures tell us. There we remain until the resurrection and as we are shown, those who should have known better will see those who have tried their best to be faithful to their Heavenly Father receiving eternal life and themselves left out. They will have eternal death, which is very different from eternal torture. They will have lost their opportunity and be dead and gone forever.

This is why it is so important for people to know what the word of God tells us because sticking ones head in the proverbial sand leaves one totally exposed to being 'wiped out', my term, not the Bible's. We have to take responsibility for our own salvation while we can, if we turn to God for help in understanding His wishes and read our Bibles I am sure help will be given if we persist and really want it. Repentance, baptism and a happy life following Jesus is on offer.
I agree with you 100% .. What is strange is how most prefer to think of our Creator as some sort of prison warden , as though he has nothing better to do for eternity but torment us poor little fools forever ... what is even stranger is how simple bible verse is completely ignored with the example of another .. It is almost as though they would prefer torture to everlasting death .. Do you know why they do ? Because our Creator put it into our hearts to want to live forever , so for them everlasting death is not an option ... They really prefer everlasting torture because they think they will at least still be alive somewhere ... This is how much the truth of God's judgement is really feared ... Perhaps they prefer to think that all the people that died in the flood are still alive somewhere , or that Adam %26amp; Eve are still being punished in hell .. After all is said and done the most extreme belief is that God would let satan have control of it ... Just think of it , after all satan has done here he is simply rewarded for all of it by being given a torture chamber ... Satan has indeed won a great crowd himself for hell , it is almost too bad none of them will ever get to see it ... ';For out of the dust you were created , and back to dust you will go ';............... That is our Creators judgement ... Did anyone know anything before they were conceived ? Then you will know nothing after you are dead ... That is what your Creator Jehovah has said , and that is what will be done ...
Hell fires are not lit yet. They won't be lit until after the righteous have spent 1000 years in heaven and Jesus comes back and resurrected the wicked. At that point they will bow and confess Jesus as Lord. Hell, won't burn forever. This earth will become hell, and the fire will only last until there is nothing left to burn. Sodom isn't burning still today. Many people misunderstand the teaching about hell. You are right the dead know not anything.
I see that many still support Hell Fire with Jesus Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus

The rich man represents the religious leaders who are favored with spiritual privileges and opportunities, and Lazarus pictures the common people who hunger for spiritual nourishment. Jesus continues his story, describing a dramatic change in the men’s circumstances.

“Now in course of time,” Jesus says, “the beggar died and he was carried off by the angels to the bosom position of Abraham. Also, the rich man died and was buried. And in Hades he lifted up his eyes, he existing in torments, and he saw Abraham afar off and Lazarus in the bosom position with him.”

Since the rich man and Lazarus are not literal persons but symbolize classes of people, logically their deaths are also symbolic. What do their deaths symbolize, or represent?

Jesus has just finished pointing to a change in circumstances by saying that ‘the Law and the Prophets were until John the Baptizer, but from then on the kingdom of God is being declared.’ Hence, it is with the preaching of John and Jesus Christ that both the rich man and Lazarus die to their former circumstances, or condition.

Those of the humble, repentant Lazarus class die to their former spiritually deprived condition and come into a position of divine favor. Whereas they had earlier looked to the religious leaders for what little dropped from the spiritual table, now the Scriptural truths imparted by Jesus are filling their needs. They are thus brought into the bosom, or favored position, of the Greater Abraham, Jehovah God.

On the other hand, those who make up the rich-man class come under divine disfavor because of persistently refusing to accept the Kingdom message taught by Jesus. They thereby die to their former position of seeming favor. In fact, they are spoken of as being in figurative torment. Listen now, as the rich man speaks:

“Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in anguish in this blazing fire.” God’s fiery judgment messages proclaimed by Jesus’ disciples are what torment individuals of the rich-man class. They want the disciples to let up on declaring these messages, thus providing them some measure of relief from their torments.

“But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you received in full your good things in your lifetime, but Lazarus correspondingly the injurious things. Now, however, he is having comfort here but you are in anguish. And besides all these things, a great chasm has been fixed between us and you people, so that those wanting to go over from here to you people cannot, neither may people cross over from there to us.’”

How just and appropriate that such a dramatic reversal take place between the Lazarus class and the rich-man class! The change in conditions is accomplished a few months later at Pentecost 33 C.E., when the old Law covenant is replaced by the new covenant. It then becomes unmistakably clear that the disciples, not the Pharisees and other religious leaders, are favored by God. The “great chasm” that separates the symbolic rich man from Jesus’ disciples therefore represents God’s unchangeable, righteous judgment.

The rich man next requests “father Abraham”: “Send [Lazarus] to the house of my father, for I have five brothers.” The rich man thus confesses he has a closer relationship to another father, who is actually Satan the Devil. The rich man requests that Lazarus water down God’s judgment messages so as not to put his “five brothers,” his religious allies, in “this place of torment.”

“But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to these.’” Yes, if the “five brothers” would escape torment, all they have to do is heed the writings of Moses and the Prophets that identify Jesus as the Messiah and then become his disciples. But the rich man objects: “No, indeed, father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them they will repent.”

However, he is told: “If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone rises from the dead.” God will not provide special signs or miracles to convince people. They must read and apply the Scriptures if they would obtain his favor. Luke 16:14-31; John 9:28, 29; Matthew 19:3-9; Galatians 3:24; Colossians 2:14; John 8:44.
Here are some more verses for you too!

The Bible states that the dead are sleeping in the graves until the second coming of Jesus, in which the dead in Christ shall rise, and those who are alive shall be caught up together in the air. When dead, we have a soul, just not a ';living soul.';

The Bible states that the dead know not anything. (psalm. 115:17 psalm 6:5, 88:10-12)

';His breath goeth forth, he returneth to the earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.'; (Psalm 146:4)

';For the living know that they will die, but the dead know not anything.'; (Ecclesiastes 9:5, first part)

';The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.'; (Psalm 115:17)

';Marvel not at this for the hour is coming in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life, and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.'; (John 5:28,29)

';But I would not have you be ignorant, brethren concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.'; (1thessalonians 4:13)

';Let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulcher is with us unto this day..... For David is NOT YET ascended into the Heavens.'; (Acts 2:29, 34 first part, emphasis added.

Death and sleep are used interchangeably; read John 11:11-14.

The Bible also states that death is a sleep.. I.e. Lazarus, and the little girl.. If we have the seed of Jesus inside of us then we sleep in the grave until he comes to take us home.. He is so wonderful.. He knew that we would not like heaven if we had to go right when we died.. How aweful it would be to see our loved ones suffering on earth while we were in paradise.. When Jesus comes back the trumpet will sound and the dead in Christ shall rise first. (1thessalonians 4:6).. Then mother and daughter father and son.. Brother and sister will all be caught up in the air together and spend eternity with no more pain or sorrow.. For God says..';For they shall hunger no more nor shall they thirst... And God shall wipe away ALL tears from their eyes.'; (Revelation 7:16,17)

Amen.. I thank God for the rest that he has promised to give us, that we might find joy when we die.

Look up in Strong's concordance the words SLEEP, ASLEEP, DEATH, DEAD
I did not write the following, it is from GotQuestions.org. I believe my God is just and fair. We deserve to be punished from the Fall, but through Jesus Christ He has provided salvation.

';This is an issue that bothers many people who have an incomplete understanding of three things: the nature of God, the nature of man, and the nature of sin. As fallen, sinful human beings, the nature of God is a difficult concept for us to grasp. We tend to see God as a kind, merciful Being whose love for us overrides and overshadows all His other attributes. Of course God is loving, kind, and merciful, but He is first and foremost a holy and righteous God. So holy is He that He cannot tolerate sin. He is a God whose anger burns against the wicked and disobedient (Isaiah 5:25; Hosea 8:5; Zechariah 10:3). He is not only a loving God—He is love itself! But the Bible also tells us that He hates all manner of sin (Proverbs 6:16-19). And while He is merciful, there are limits to His mercy. “Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon” (Isaiah 55:6-7).

Humanity is corrupted by sin, and that sin is always directly against God. When David sinned by committing adultery with Bathsheba and having Uriah murdered, he responded with an interesting prayer: “Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight…” (Psalm 51:4). Since David had sinned against Bathsheba and Uriah, how could he claim to have only sinned against God? David understood that all sin is ultimately against God. God is an eternal and infinite Being (Psalm 90:2). As a result, all sin requires an eternal punishment. God’s holy, perfect, and infinite character has been offended by our sin. Although to our finite minds our sin is limited in time, to God—who is outside of time—the sin He hates goes on and on. Our sin is eternally before Him and must be eternally punished in order to satisfy His holy justice.

No one understands this better than someone in hell. A perfect example is the story of the rich man and Lazarus. Both died, and the rich man went to hell while Lazarus went to paradise (Luke 16). Of course, the rich man was aware that his sins were only committed during his lifetime. But, interestingly, he never says, “How did I end up here?” That question is never asked in hell. He does not say, “Did I really deserve this? Don't you think this is a little extreme? A little over the top?” He only asks that someone go to his brothers who are still alive and warn them against his fate.

Like the rich man, every sinner in hell has a full realization that he deserves to be there. Each sinner has a fully informed, acutely aware, and sensitive conscience which, in hell, becomes his own tormenter. This is the experience of torture in hell—a person fully aware of his or her sin with a relentlessly accusing conscience, without relief for even one moment. The guilt of sin will produce shame and everlasting self-hatred. The rich man knew that eternal punishment for a lifetime of sins is justified and deserved. That is why he never protested or questioned being in hell.

The realities of eternal damnation, eternal hell, and eternal punishment are frightening and disturbing. But it is good that we might, indeed, be terrified. While this may sound grim, there is good news. God loves us (John 3:16) and wants us to be saved from hell (2 Peter 3:9). But because God is also just and righteous, He cannot allow our sin to go unpunished. Someone has to pay for it. In His great mercy and love, God provided His own payment for our sin. He sent His Son Jesus Christ to pay the penalty for our sins by dying on the cross for us. Jesus’ death was an infinite death because He is the infinite God/man, paying our infinite sin debt, so that we would not have to pay it in hell for eternity (2 Corinthians 5:21). If we confess our sin and place our faith in Christ, asking for God’s forgiveness based on Christ’s sacrifice, we are saved, forgiven, cleansed, and promised an eternal home in heaven. God loved us so much that He provided the means for our salvation, but if we reject His gift of eternal life, we will face the eternal consequences of that decision.';
Eternal torment IS NOT BIBLICAL, even Satan knows that there will be a day of torment.

Mt. 8:29 ';And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? ART THOU COME HITHER TO TORMENT US BEFORE THE TIME?

John 3:16 ';For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.';

1 John 5:12 ';He that hath the Son hath life; and HE THAT NOT THE SON OF GOD HATH NOT LIFE.';

People you need to read the Genesis story of what had happened after Adam and Eve had sinned.

Along with believing, What must a person partake of to have everlasting life?

Gen. 3:22, 24

22. And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever:

24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.';

So the opposite of eternal life is eternal death.
