Is the Book of Mormon is a false teaching?

Timelady is correct- all Mormons will tell you the book of Mormon is true. All other faiths will tell you it is not. But considering that the New Testament was written within about 40 years of Jesus death and resurrection, most scholars believe that after the last apostle died, there was no new revelation. The only ones who penned the revelations of the New Testament were those who were Apostles. Paul was not one of the original Apostles, but he is considered to be an Apostle by most scholars.

For most of church history, theologians have believed that after the last Apostle died, the books of the canon were closed, and there was no new revelation. The probability that God would suddenly break silence after 1800 years to give new 'teachings' to Joseph Smith is very unlikely. There is no evidence of the ';Nephites'; spoken of in the book of Mormon. Modern archeologists have been unable to uncover even a single piece of evidence discussed in the book of Mormon, as opposed to tons of evidence to support both the Old and New Testaments. Based on archeology alone, there is no evidence that any of Josephs' book was true. The golden tablets he supposedly found somehow mysteriously 'were taken away'. That's too much like a hoax.

Alexander Campbell, one of his peers, at the time of Joseph's great 'revelations' completely disassembled the book of Mormon, because the teachings are in direct conflict with the scripture. Jesus and Lucifer were not brothers. In fact, the name Lucifer is not even in the Bible- it was a reference made in Milton's poem ';Paradise Lost';.

Satan was a fallen angel, and in no way equal to God. This conflict alone tells us that someone is mistaken. God does not make mistakes. Joseph Smith apparently made up this entire account. It would not be the first time in history that someone was deceived by a fanciful story. P.T. Barnum fooled everyone with his Cardiff giant. It was considered a great archeological find, until Barnum confessed it was all a hoax to bring attention to his circus.Is the Book of Mormon is a false teaching?
It's difficult to determine whether a matter of faith is true or false because there aren't any objective tests you can use. The Book of Mormon is probably ';truth'; to those who have faith in it, or believe in it. By the same token, it's probably ';false'; to those who believe in more traditional Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, etc. Also ';false'; to those who don't believe in God at all.

True or false...who's to say? In faith it's sort of whatever floats your boat.Is the Book of Mormon is a false teaching?
i am a convert to the lds faith.

i believe it speaks the truth according to the authors because it is the preserved words of an entire nation that believed in God.

however, i also believe there is an allowance for mistakes of men, and because of contentions in the ';land'; it is possible that some false beliefs were still preserved.

its not a false book,
The Book of Mormon contains many, many teachings, just as the Bible and Koran contain many teachings. It is considered to be a sacred text, translated by the power of God from ancient writings of some of the inhabitants of the Western Hemisphere. There is significant evidence of major civilizations within the time frame covered by the Book of Mormon and enough evidence to support many of the concepts and ideas.

The majority of the work concerns the lives of a branch of Israelites who left Jerusalem just before the Babylonian captivity and journeyed via land to the southern part of the Arabian peninsula and from there, traveling by boat to the western hemisphere. Their teachings are similar to those found in the Bible and in harmony with it and include a visit by the resurrected Savior who taught them the same Gospel he had taught in the Holy Lands. The people lived in a cycle similar to the Israelites of good and generous, proud and boastful, captivity and slavery to sin, followed by the same cycle. For a number of generations following the Savior's visit, they lived harmoniously before falling away into sin and eventually engaging in a war of genocide, destroying them and their civilization.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have canonized the Book of Mormon as a sacred companion to the Bible and as another testament to the divinity of Jesus Christ.

I have provided a number of links to official Church websites along with a apologist web site that responds to many of the false and misleading claims made about the Book of Mormon, what it contains, and the Church in general.
When you read it you will know that it is not a book full of false teaching. You will also know that the words in it were inspired by God, not the Devil.

Jesus himself taught that a kingdom that is divided cannot stand. Therefore, if the words in the Book of Mormon inspire men and women to do good things and to come unto Jesus Christ it cannot be a book that was inspired by Satan. Listen to the following passages from the Book of Mormon and judge for yourself.

In this first passage Nephi is praying to God.

2 Nephi 4: 34-35

34 O Lord, I have trusted in thee, and I will trust in thee forever. I will not put my trust in the arm of flesh; for I know that cursed is he that putteth his trust in the arm of flesh. Yea, cursed is he that putteth his trust in man or maketh flesh his arm.

35 Yea, I know that God will give liberally to him that asketh. Yea, my God will give me, if I ask not amiss; therefore I will lift up my voice unto thee; yea, I will cry unto thee, my God, the rock of my righteousness. Behold, my voice shall forever ascend up unto thee, my rock and mine everlasting God. Amen.

In this passage Alma, who is a prophet is talking to a group of people who have turned away from the Lord and who are wicked.

Alma 5: 16-19

16 I say unto you, can you imagine to yourselves that ye hear the voice of the Lord, saying unto you, in that day: Come unto me ye blessed, for behold, your works have been the works of righteousness upon the face of the earth?

17 Or do ye imagine to yourselves that ye can lie unto the Lord in that day, and say鈥擫ord, our works have been righteous works upon the face of the earth鈥攁nd that he will save you?

18 Or otherwise, can ye imagine yourselves brought before the tribunal of God with your souls filled with guilt and remorse, having a remembrance of all your guilt, yea, a perfect remembrance of all your wickedness, yea, a remembrance that ye have set at defiance the commandments of God?

19 I say unto you, can ye look up to God at that day with a pure heart and clean hands? I say unto you, can you look up, having the image of God engraven upon your countenances?
*shakes head*

Christ is practically mentioned on every page for one.

2nd Nephi 25:26

26 And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.

If it's a book that was created by demons why does it mentions Christ's name?

Does Satan praise Christ?

But your words remind me of Luke 11: 15

15 But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils.

If Joseph Smith was writing stuff under the influence of Demons why did the particular verse I give mention Christ?

Well.....
You have to make your decision about Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon the same way you make your decisions about anything else related to God.

If you believe in the Bible, how did you decide it was true? If you accept Jesus as your Savior, how did you decide that? That kind of knowledge can only come the way Peter received it, when he confessed that Jesus was the Christ and the Son of God. Jesus said to him, ';Flesh and blood has not revealed it to you, but my Father in Heaven.';

Mormons believe that Jesus Christ himself appeared to Joseph Smith and through Him and several other heavenly messengers, restored the same church that Christ originally began 2,000 years ago.

You have to decide if that's true or not. Jesus said the way to recognize false prophets is by their ';fruits';. So you have to look at the revelations Joseph Smith said he received and the church that's built around his teachings and decide where you think they came from.

Personally, I am completely convinced that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God, and that God has started the work He promised to do in the last days. He is gathering the lost. He has restored His priesthood authority to the earth. He has given us a lot of knowledge that was lost. It's the restoration of all things that was promised in the book of Acts. It's the end of the famine of hearing the word of the Lord that Amos prophesied.

God is bringing about a work on the earth again just like He promised He would.
Why would demons inspire someone to write a book that teaches the 10 commandments; teaches people to love and serve each other; teaches that Jesus Christ is the Savior; teaches that God is good and loving? They wouldn't. Demons inspire people NOT to pray, NOT to believe in Christ, NOT to follow the commandments, NOT to love each other. Those that believe in and follow the Book of Mormon pray every day, they believe in Christ, they are generous with their time and money in helping others...by their fruits ye shall know them. The Book of Mormon is a force for good, not evil.
Well... let's see, the Book of Mormon teaches, preaches and testifies of Christ AND the Bible. You know of any demons who support Christ????

The Book of Mormon is a second witness that Jesus IS the Christ. How can that be of satan?

The Book of Mormon IS true.
No. It is true. I know it is and you can know for yourself if you read it and pray about it.
Because demons do not testify of Christ. And the Book of Mormon testified of Christ. Christ taught us as much.

But, the best way to know if the Book of Mormon is true or not, is to ask someone who knows. And that would be God. Would not God know if it be true? And would not God want you to know this so that you would either have the truth or not be deceived?

The answer then lies with asking God, like the Bible tells us to do in James 1:5. ';If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all men liberally..';

By asking God, in prayer, with sincerity to know the truth, God will give you the answer.

That is what millions of members of the Church of Jesus Christ have done, and know the Book of Mormon to be God's words.

God loves you and would want you to know the truth. Ask him.
The book of Mormon was brought by an angel. A false angel is able to tell lies but not to bring something. A false angel neither would teach of Christ nor lead people to do god works.
What kind of answer do you expect? A mormon will say no, everyone else will say yes. Personally, I don't see how they are able to swallow that Joseph Smith story.
The Book of Mormon is True. Demons tried to Keep him from Asking God what he should do, they made it easy to tell the difference.
No it is not. It is another testimony of Jesus Christ and it backs up what the bible says.
Nope.

It's the word of God.

I'm going to guess that those who gave the thumbs down haven't even read the book. :]

';And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins.';

2 Nephi 25:26 (Book of Mormon)

Edit - I never understood why people put so much faith in what ';scholars'; say. Personally, my belief that the bible as well as the Book of Mormon contain the word of God has nothing to do with archeological evidence. Because there is not evidence for anything that truly matters. How does archeological evidence prove that Jesus Christ was the Son of God? Or that he took upon himself the sins of the world? Those are the things that matter. Not whether or not we can visit historic sites and buy overpriced souvenirs from the gift shop.

';Most scholars believe that after the last apostle died, there was no new revelation.';

Mormons believe that God is, not was. That he speaks, not spake. :]
All religious books are false teaching
Yes, just like every other holy text.
Of course it is. Go to salamandersociety.com to find out more
Of course. Joseph Smith was a proven con artist.
