Are there any false teaching in Christianity in our present era?

It can be of any denomination, any church or cults.

I am quite sure the worshipping of Virgin Mary (teaching from Roman Catholic) is one of them. Can you think of any other false teachings?Are there any false teaching in Christianity in our present era?
One huge one is; That the gifts and power/workings of the Holy Spirit are dead.Are there any false teaching in Christianity in our present era?
Oh definately! I see false teachings EVERYWHERE in protestant churches as well. There are extremes within the spectrum, those of being too libral (such as all ';paths'; lead to God, there being no such thing as sin and that all souls will go to heaven just because people are ';good'; because God is all loving and la de da!) and those of being too conservative (';health and wealth'; movement, that certain ethnicities are meant to be slaves, that God only loves those who are pefectly righteous or do certain things and that certain people cannot be forgiven for their sins). Sometimes scripture is taken out of context or make dangerous ';assumptions'; about the end times or make up new prophecy which does not exactly go in line with Biblical teachings. Also consider, lots of cults out there too that consider themselves within the umbrella of ';Christianity'; but have followed a false teacher and are way, way, way of base (I think we can guess easily what those are).

I haven't been to very many churches with 100% truely sound doctrine (that is, perfectly Biblical, and ';airtight';.) but then nobody ever said that Christians aren't human and bound to make a few slip ups here and there. I think the safest thing to do is study the Bible for yourself, learn about theology and the different views there and identify which doctrines are truely false and which ones are still debatable (such as Calvinism and Armenianism).
';False'; implies that there is truth. Where does Scripture say one finds the truth?

Hint: 1 Timothy 3:15.

EDIT: So that link is your ';proof'; of ';worshipping Mary';? You didn't do so well in English classes at school, then. I'll try to keep this in plain language.

PRAYER and WORSHIP are not synonyms; they do not mean the same thing.

Worship = adoration, exaltation

Pray = to ask, request, supplicate

While prayer is certainly involved in worship, one is not worshipping every time one prays. If that were the case, the common phrase found in legal documents ';Plaintiff prays that the court grant relief ...'; would mean that the court (or the judge) was being worshipped. Since no one takes it in that way, it's obvious that the word ';pray'; is understood to mean activity other than converse with God -- and certainly not always worship.

We ask Mary to pray for us. Not to carry a message to God because she's some kind of ';middleman';, but to add her prayer to ours. As a Christian brother or sister would ask you. Do you tell them ';don't ask me to pray for you, you can go directly to God through Christ!';? Or do you agree, and pray for them?

If the souls in heaven -- including Mary -- are in the presence of God, then they are much more ';alive'; than we; eternal life, remember? So unless you subscribe to the notion that the souls of the dead are all in some kind of suspended animation awaiting the final trumpet (and if so, I do hope your pastor doesn't include any reference at funerals to the deceased now being ';home'; -- that would be terribly contradictory), then you consider them to be in His presence too.
There are many false doctrines unfortunately which causes great confusion. God tells us to study daily and to search the scriptures. Don't take what man says as 100% accuracy especially if it goes against what God tells us. Here are a few examples you can look into. Christmas and Easter. Gods holy days? These are rooted in paganism and therefore can not belong to God. Sunday worship is also rooted in paganism. God gave us specific holy days and Sabbaths. Who are we to follow? God or man? The Catholic church is neck deep in pagan roots. Check it out. Main stream protestism is also neck deep for we have kept many Catholic teachings when we separated from the church. Good luck... May God lead you to his truth.
I am a Catholic, and I haven't met anyone who worships the Virgin Mary. Must be some strange Christian offbeat denomination.

Anyway:

';My denomination is right, everyone else is going to hell';

Pastors who preach the gospel and make MILLIONS of dollars.

Oh, and whatever strange denomination you said worships Mary.

Those are all fake teachings.
Many many more! All children go to heaven is not scriptural. Give money to a church and you will get 100 fold return is not scriptural, the 100 fold return is on what you forsake, not what you give. That tithing can be less than 10%. If God tells you to give, it will not be less than 10% and is usually more. The 10% is what God demands of us, anything more is the gift or offering. Pastors/preachers whatever they are called that say ';this ministry can't go on without your giving'; is not in scripture. God will provide is in scripture. Also, make your requests known to God, meaning don't tell the congregation what you need, tell God, he (God) will cause people to give to you--that is scriptural. I could go on but this answer is so long many will give me a thumbs down.
O come on, you have to be kidding? The more you look the

more you find.

Try Easter, Xmas, Replacement Theology %26amp; on %26amp; on %26amp; on.

Take a look at the comprehensive list that Lone Ranger has

compiled %26amp; I am sure there is still more.

Christianity is riddled with false teaching so much so one has

to dig for the nuggets of truth %26amp; gold %26amp; pearls that are buried

beneath the bricks, mortar %26amp; rubble %26amp; deeper.
The Catholic Church formally states that worshiping the Blessed Virgin Mary or any human being breaks the First Commandment. There is not one word that calls for the worship of Mary in the link you provided and you will not find one in any legitimate Catholic source.

The most destructive false teaching in Christianity that I know about is when ';Christians'; say things like, ';God hates Gays'; (or any other population of human beings).

God loves all people unconditionally. This means there are no conditions needed to be met to merit His love.

God loves the worst sinner just as much as He loves the best saint.

Being Love, God can do nothing else.

This does not mean that He approves of all of our actions. There is a fundamental difference between love and approval.

Some people call this ';love the sinner, hate the sin.';

Anyone who states, ';God hates these people or those people'; does not understand basic Christianity.

Here are a couple of quotes about God as Love from C. S. Lewis that I really like:

';He [God] has paid us the intolerable compliment of loving us, in the deepest, most tragic, most inexorable sense. .... Love, in its own nature, demands the perfecting of the beloved; ... mere ';kindness'; which tolerates anything except suffering in its object is, in that respect, at the opposite pole from Love.';

';You ask for a loving God; you have one ... not a senile benevolence that drowsily wishes you to be happy in your own way, not the cold philanthropy of a conscientious magistrate, not the care of a host who feels responsible for the comfort of his guests, but the CONSUMING FIRE HIMSELF, the Love that made the worlds, persistent as the artist's love for a child, jealous, inexorable, exacting as love between the sexes...';

';The only place outside Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell.';

See also the fourth chapter of the first letter of John.

With love in Christ.
I am quite sure that bearing false witness against your fellow Christians is forbidden...

And yes, there are tons of false teachings - the rapture, the once saved always saved lie, the denial of the truth of the Eucharist, the denial of the rest of the sacraments... sounds Protestant to me!
Catholicism is full of them, especially their false gospel of works, which leads to eternal hell.

There's tons of false teaching out there. The truth is that the Bible is 100% true and is the final and ONLY authority on all matters, so the Bible is always to be used to test those that teach, no matter how they are.
Wow! Where to start? I am not going to name any denominations.

Sunday instead of Sabbath

Christmas and Easter instead of the Biblical Festivals (Leviticus 23)

Christians can eat whatever they want

The Messiah died for our sins so we can sin as much as we want

The Torah no longer defines sin, so we no longer have to follow it's teachings

Immortality of the soul

The wicked live forever in hell, a place of eternal torment

Purgatory

Limbo

Peter is the Rock

The Rapture

Christ was really the archangel Michael

the 144,000 are Jewish missionaries

Joseph Smith was a prophet

Ellen White was a prophet

The Pope is in charge

Celibate priesthood

Making the sign of the cross

Mary worship (you got that one!)

Idols or relics are just aids in worship

Praying to dead people...like Mary or any of their self-proclaimed saints

The dead go to heaven or hell immediately upon death...or in the case of one denomination they can go to Limbo or Purgatory, whichever is convienient at the time....

The Earth and the entire universe was created in 6 days

Abraham was the first Jew

Issac was a Jew

Sara was a Jew

Rebecca was a Jew

Jacob was a Jew

We can take whatever path we want to God and be saved

Messiah Yashua did not come in the flesh

That God is a trinity

That a church that rejects Torah is the one true Apostolic Church

Whew! What isn't false in modern Christianity??

Edit: bet you are going to lose a lot of answers to the Catholic report monkeys !!! Truth is not one of their comfort zones.
You are bearing false witness against the Catholic Church, Catholics and Jesus Christ. WE DO NOT WORSHIP THE BLESSED VIRGIN. Could you please provide the verse from the catechism or Bible(that we compiled) that says we are to worship Mary. If you cant you are bearing false witness.
Some religions teach that the gentiles replaced the natural Jews in the promise God gave to Abraham. I think Replacement Theology is hateful and very untrue. It depicts God as breaking covenant! God does not break His promises! Not in the past nor will He ever! There are many false teachings in the name of Christianity. Sometimes it is hard to get to the truth that Jesus intended for us. Things have been so distorted over the years.
The first words provided on the link state ';Through Jesus' ';. I'd say you are contradicting yourself in your own chosen link.

I can also safely assume you are not, never have been %26amp; are uneducated in the Catholic Churches teachings.

I think it only fair you should at least read the site you posted. If not that site your bible.

Would it also be fair to state, if your are Christian, you are lacking in following your own laws: Bearing Fales Witness against Thy Neighbor.

I am quite sure Catholic's don't worship anyone outside of the Trinity. You need to speak with your teacher (pastor, reverand) about this matter or is that who taught you to think such things?
Hey Einstein,

Catholics DON'T WORSHIP our Blessed Mother.

So you are, by definition breaking one of the 10 commandments: Thou Shall Not Bear False Wittiness

You are doing this either out of ignorance, or out of hate. I hope it is out of ignorance, for your sake.

But you really should know our beliefs before stating them wrongly, no matter who you are talking about.

I am a former Protestant, I don't bash Protestants. I was on the Board and a Deacon in my Church.

I became Catholic after studying the Catholic Church for 20 years, believe me 100% I would NOT have converted if there was ANY truth or ANY evidence that Catholics Worship Mary.

Peace, and may God Bless your Search.
One of the central tenets of christianity is the ressurrection of Jesus. Refering to it in pagan terminology, namely 'Easter'. This is the proper name of a pagan fertility goddess which God holds to be especially contemptible.
yes, just to name a couple that i have experienced.....tithe, 10 percent doesnt go to the lord, 110 percent does. give money to ministry to help them out and give the rest to the poor, widows, fatherless, and our lord will reward you openly. another(which is probably gonna tick some people off), the bible is not the 'word of god'. our lord jesus christ is the word of god.
There are tons of false teachings.

Churches take tradition over the bible but don't understand the irony of using that tradition as their current church accuses the creators of that tradition of being apostate.
Plenty;

Like.....Oprah's new religous book.

People who worship money over what is righteous.

People who believe in war, Jesus never said ';take up arms and defend yourself, or attack, he always said, ';turn the other cheek and forgive....love one another....forgive....pray for those who persecute you';.
As long as we are here on this earth there will be. The funny thing is that every one believes their philosophy is correct. So, then, how can we really tell who's telling the truth? You have to decide for yourself.
I am not Catholic, but I am sure that Catholics do not worship Mary.

Other false teachings include so-called Christians bashing their brethren in the Lord.
In quote: ';Being Gay is OK!!'; or ';It's OK to wear a dress!!';

This thing that is not false that God loves everyone, even false women and Gays.
Well, as a Jew, we would consider the entire concept of Jesus as the messiah a false teaching...

But that's just OUR opinion...forget the fact that WE invented the messiah concept...
The teaching of Creationism or Intelligent Design spring to mind, any sects teaching those should be regarded as cults.
Each of the Christian denominations have some wrong teaching in it. I classify Catholism as a denomination also.

The cults are the ones who aren't founded on the Rock, Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God.

They have a different Jesus %26amp; added written doctrine that contradict the bible.

They deny the work finished on the cross of Calvary as sufficient for our salvation.

And salvation is by works so religiousity dominates.

If one idolizes any Saint, it is idolatry so would be a false teaching in Christianity.

As Christians we are to die to the lust of our flesh %26amp; follow after the Spirit. We are not under the letter so much as under the personal direction of the Holy Spirit who guides us acccording to biblical scripture.

I agree with lady eagle. Saying that God doesn't pour out his Spirit %26amp; give spiritual gifts or we don't need the 5 fold ministry since the bible was written... is a false teaching.

All the offices of the 5 fold minisistries %26amp; all the gifts will continue %26amp; will manifest in the Church even more so in the latter days. Where I think we are right now.

Like that God doesn't use prophets in Christianity. While there is the office of Prophet in the 5 fold ministry and there are different propphetic gifts given to the body of Christ.

And until the fulness of the body of Christ %26amp; the unity of faith %26amp; to encourage one another in the faith %26amp; continually lead new people to the knowledge of Christ Salvation.
You need to be more humble and not so ignorant or judgemental.

Christ teaches us very clearly:

Gospel According to Saint John

Chapter 6

32 Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say to you; Moses gave you not bread from heaven, but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is that which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life to the world. 34 They said therefore unto him: Lord, give us always this bread. 35 And Jesus said to them: I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall not hunger: and he that believeth in me shall never thirst.

36 But I said unto you, that you also have seen me, and you believe not. 37 All that the Father giveth to me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me, I will not cast out. 38 Because I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me. 39 Now this is the will of the Father who sent me: that of all that he hath given me, I should lose nothing; but should raise it up again in the last day. 40 And this is the will of my Father that sent me: that every one who seeth the Son, and believeth in him, may have life everlasting, and I will raise him up in the last day.

41 The Jews therefore murmured at him, because he had said: I am the living bread which came down from heaven. 42 And they said: Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How then saith he, I came down from heaven? 43 Jesus therefore answered, and said to them: Murmur not among yourselves. 44 No man can come to me, except the Father, who hath sent me, draw him; and I will raise him up in the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets: And they shall all be taught of God. Every one that hath heard of the Father, and hath learned, cometh to me.

46 Not that any man hath seen the Father; but he who is of God, he hath seen the Father. 47 Amen, amen I say unto you: He that believeth in me, hath everlasting life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your fathers did eat manna in the desert, and are dead. 50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven; that if any man eat of it, he may not die.

51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. 52 If any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever; and the bread that I will give, is my flesh, for the life of the world. 53 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying: How can this man give us his flesh to eat? 54 Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say unto you: Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you. 55 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath everlasting life: and I will raise him up in the last day.

56 For my flesh is meat indeed: and my blood is drink indeed. 57 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, abideth in me, and I in him. 58 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father; so he that eateth me, the same also shall live by me. 59 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead. He that eateth this bread, shall live for ever.
Study the catholic doctrines there lots of them.

Those who say that catholics don't worship Mary, can you explain why the catholic pray ';hail Mary mother of God ';10 times and only one ';Our Father'; in their rosary.
All religions are false,...... but some are more falser than others!

Well falser is not quite the right word - more ridiculous!
Show me a someone claiming they have a true religion and I will show you a liar.

There are a lot of things added to the Catholic teachings that are not in the bible.

Mormons teach that they can become gods of their own planet just as god is the god of this planet.

The Church of Christ teaches salvation by works.

Many Seventh-Day Adventists still keep the old testament dietary laws and deny an eternal hell, teaching soul sleep.
